the koreans have a peculiar way rooting for the home team. we like
to say "fighting." as in "korea team fighting."
i think it's very cute - another example of the hanguks taking an
american word and making it korean. for example, bars are called
"hoff," which i think was derived from "hops,"
as in beer hops. so the entire nation is going nuts right now as
the Red Devils, aka the national soccer team has exceeded everyone's
wildest dreams and made it to the final four.
typing in my room is much more bearable now. thanks to aaron,
there's a steady stream of cool air coming from my a/c i bought
at pc richards. in true macguyver fashion, he took some spare wood,
duct tape, cardboard and various nails and screws and installed
into into my oddly shaped window.

1. being at the mets vs. yankees game on sunday when mo vaughn hit
the 3 run homerun to win the game.
2. sailing on the hudson at night and not getting seasick.
3. student haircuts at aveda. 15 well spent bucks.
4. new jas mart + food court opening in the east village
5. go ape fanzine - true d.i.y. spirit is still alive!
and of course....
6. korea and US - two huge underdogs, both advancing to the world
cup round of eight
boo:
1. walking 20+ blocks out of the way to go to gray's papaya for
the first time in years only to have it be closed because they are
filming sex & the city!!!

rode brooklyn bound over the manhattan bridge with aaron and chris
and then played an hour of basketball and nearly keeled over. i
am so out of shape. the neighborhood little people were out in full
force yesterday to enjoy the beautiful weather and boy are they
fiesty - wanting to pick fights with people 3 feet taller then them.

daily candy featured doggles today.
needless to say, a bunch of different people forwarded me the link.
how sad to be a dog person without a dog.
so monday morning around 2:30 am is les etats-unis vs. corea in
a world cup match. both
teams have come away with huge upset wins (korea's 1st world cup
win in 5 tournaments). i'll be waving my ttaeguk'ki.
on nightline
last night was part one of a relaly heartbreaking story of north
koreans hiding out in china. part one focused on a family forced
to send their children to orphanages in order to get them educated
and fed. they were forced to send their youngest - a five year old
boy - by segment's end. very sad. north
korean human rights has more information on the devastating
conditions that still exist in the 21st century.

back
from seeing n*e*r*d with shelly. we went to dinner beforehand at
this place Irving on Irving which was pretty cute. nothing out of
the ordinary, just a tasty meal. instead of the usual bread and
oil, bread and butter fare, you get a little jar of what looks like
a combination of stelladora breadsticks and pizza hut bread stickes.
they are not hard, nor are they soft. maybe they taste like oyster
crackers. they came with a yummy white bean dip, mildly seasoned
with garlic i think. shelly gave me some fun stuff she got at work
(a juicy tube, new sour altoids and a single serving of prada lip
balm) and in australia (a timtam bar). i wish i had a work so i
could get treats sent to me. i think i'll go visit hamachi tomorrow
and bring her some treats.
go NETS!
