jin-iny cricket!

last night's episode of LOST was great because it showed what hot stuff koreans are! dan made some goofy drooling comment about sun which i normally maybe would have been annoyed by, but i think i agreed! and jin! holy ab-roller. i thought the bald guy who the special eyebrows was pretty cute too. my hope for the show is that the character of jack gets killed off. i originally read that Jack was going to be played by michael keaton and that he wasn't going to last through the first 2 episodes. i know ana-lucia is the one to hate, but jack is sooooo annoying. matthew fox should stop complaining because i don't think he would be too missed if he left the show. there are plenty of other more interesting characters. next week looks really good! but i'm sure we're just being teased.

sorry, hot tub

would you throw beer cans and blocks of cheese at this woman?

apparently if you're a sports fan in philly, you would. my hero, the one and only sonya thomas, failed to defend her wing bowl crown last night much to the delight of the portly sports fans who had gathered at the wachovia center to watch the annual event. when she entered the event floor, she and her crew were greeted with a shower of boos and beer cans.

thomas shocked the crowd last year by outeating local favorite (and multiple past champion), el wingador. by the way, this local fave is not even from philadelphia, but from south jersey. it would have been one thing if thomas emerged wearing a patriots jersey which another contestant did and which also elicited edible offerings from the rowdy spectators. anyone who follows competitive eating knows that sonya thomas is one of the most classy and gracious competitors around. thomas has not forgotten the humble beginnings from from which she has risen to become the #2 competitive eater in the world. she is not showy, nor is she boastful. she is confident with the accolades to back that up. i thought philly was supposed to be the city that loved the underdog. who in the world of competitive eating is more of an underdog than a 99lb woman who grew up dirt poor in korea, i ask?

cheer on your "native son," of course, but shame on you philadelphia for condemning a true winner you had the privelege to witness. i'll still be rooting for your football team tomorrow, because i actually do pull for the underdog.

her beautiful expression makes this an excellent performance

i worry about mo kin. does she get beaten if she hits a wrong note? does she have enough food to eat? is she really happy? does her mother or teacher pull her hair out really hard if she skips practice? who is she? where did she learn this? what is she doing right now? does she have a lot of friends at school? does she have a pet? she is so talented. i need to save this girl from the dear leader.

meat is so great

jamie apes was kind enough to pass on this guide to korean barbeque from the black table.

the writer's choice of where to enjoy his first stab at kbbq is a bit intriguing. he opts for 36 Bar and Barbeque, which while delicious, kind of skimps on the portions. at least the portions this korean is used to. also, while most kbbq restaurants are known for tacky decor, 36 is rather reserved and stark.

bonus points for using the term chon-nom, a word i haven't even thought about in ages. it's what i used to call the fob koreans at my high school who wanted me to refer to them in the superior tense because they were older than me. ha ha.
